CALCULATION & COMMUNICATION

MATHS & ENGLISH 'REBRANDED'

MATHS & ENGLISH 'REBRANDED'

Our maths and English programme at SCL is so unique we have rebranded it Calculation & Communication.

Calculation will be used in topics such as timetables and fitness schedules, budgeting, calculating personal health and fitness goals, and not to mention keeping score.

Calculation is the tool to figure out the answer to any problem involving numbers.

Communication skills will help you to read and understand notices, instructions, and to write convincing covering letters for job applications. In addition, you will develop appropriate spoken communication with managers, teachers and peers.

Communication is the tool to making yourself understood and understanding & recognising the message that others are giving to you.

Our resources will be more project based so drawing on skills that are needed to resolve a particular situation.

Your course is made up of different projects covering all aspects, together with Challenges along the way to stretch and challenge your learning.

As part of those projects and Challenges, Calculation & Communication has been embedded throughout, so you are continuously practising these skills naturally as part of your course in real life situations.

WILL I NEED TO TAKE AN EXAM?

The government have stated that all 16 -19 year olds need to be given every opportunity to achieve a Level 2 qualification in English and maths. There are strict guidelines that SCL have to follow that will determine whether your qualification is a GCSE or a Functional Skill – your tutor will explain this to you as part of your induction.

If you need to sit an English or maths qualification, you will be enrolled automatically, and your timetable will show the time of your online lesson with your Specialist English or maths tutor via Teams.

As part of your enrolment you will receive a login for the following online resources that you will have 24-hour access to support you through your programme...
